Hello Gemma, Whatever you do, proceed with caution. You say you added coolant at one point. How much did you add, and has it continued to use coolant since? One simple test you can do yourself:- take the car on a 10 mile run, and on your return, leave the engine running while you get an assistant. Get the assistant to rev the car to a steady 2000rpm and hold it at that for 2 mins. while you observe the exhaust gases, looking for any water vapour type smoke. Hello Dan, Thanks for the suggestions, but many a cylinder head has been unnecessarily removed based on the evidence of ‘mayo’ under the oil filler cap, when the reason for that mayo is simply condensation mainly due to short runs. Re. compression testing to determine whether the head gasket has failed. Fine if it’s blown between two adjacent cylinders, but of little use if there is a minor failure between a a cylinder and a water way. Perhaps you could let us know what happens from here Gemma. Dan. Does your engine have the semi hidden rear stay, sometimes called a dog bone? They can wear a lot. Another thing to consider is the steering rack mounting.

Hey Steve I did consider the rear gearbox mount too but that seems to be fairly central to the cabin and the noise is definitely coming from the front drivers side. I did replace the banana wishbones too, they were fun to do. I also checked the engine mounts too and can’t see any leaking fluid or tears in the rubber, they look to be in good shape and the engine isn’t shifting about more than usual.
